Q. Why is the Promise Ride going virtual this year?
A. Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 Pandemic and in consideration of safety and health of their participants, staff and volunteers, that the 2020 Komen Maryland Promise Ride will become a virtual. While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to hold the Promise Ride in person this year, the virtual event opens the door to a lot of fun options for our supporters.
This is the fifth year for the Promise Ride, which raises about $80,000 annually for local breast cancer assistance and research.
Q. How will a virtual Promise Ride work?
A. Ride anytime from August 15-23 an accumulate miles. You can ride on a bike outdoors or a stationary bike indoors. Participants can choose to ride 10, 35, 67 or 100 miles. We will provide virtual maps of courses in advance, but you are welcome to ride wherever you would like. There will be rewards given away throughout the week. A final virtual event will take place on Sunday, August 23.
Participants will be encouraged to use social media to share (selfies) photos and posts of them during or after their ride (tagging Susan G. Komen Maryland or posting on our Facebook page).
Q. Will participants receive a bib?
A. YES! We will provide a bib that can be downloaded and printed out to wear on your ride.
Q. Can our team still ride together?
A. The health and safety of our participants is our top priority. We encourage all social distancing and virus safety practices suggested by the local, state, and national health officials.
Q. How old do you have to be to participate in the virtual Promise Ride?
A. Children are welcome to participate! Be sure to wear a helmet when cycling outdoors and be safe!
Q. Will there still be a registration fee?
A. Registration will be free. Those who have already registered and paid a registration fee, the fee will be counted toward their fundraising goal and will count as a donation.
Q. Will there still be a fundraising minimum?
A. While we strongly encourage all participants to raise at least $100, there will not be a required minimum fundraising to participate.
